Some people might complain that chickens make loud noises. In fact, the volume of roosters crowing is about the same as the volume of barking dogs, about 90 decibels. When hens lay eggs, they make their loudest noises, around 60 - 70 decibels. As a comparison, a vacuum cleaner is 80 decibels. In effect, the audible volume will be much less for people inside their homes, due to the walls of the house.

Other people might complain that chickens produce too much manure. However, 10 chickens produce less manure than 1 dog produces in a day. To be specific, 10 chickens produce around 0.66 lb. of manure in a day, while a 40 lb. dog produces around 0.75 lb. As an added benefit, chicken manure is a nitrogen-rich fertilizer that can be used in flower beds and vegetable gardens without burning up the plants, whereas using dog manure as fertilizer can cause diseases.
